New Board Members Elected
Monterey, California – Monterey Peninsula Foundation has elected two new members to its board of directors, effective immediately. Jerry Yang of Los Altos Hills and Harris Barton of Palo Alto join current board members Geoff Couch, Greg Jamison, Heidi Ueberroth, David Clark, Doug Mackenzie, William Perocchi, Ron Spears and Dan Tibbitts, as well as Chairman Clint Eastwood and Vice Chairman Peter Ueberroth. Doug Mackenzie will become Co-Vice Chairman alongside Peter Ueberroth and former members J.B. McIntosh and Judge John Anton have been elected emeritus board members. The board oversees both the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am on the PGA TOUR and the Nature Valley First Tee Open at Pebble Beach on the Champions Tour.
Harris Barton is the founder and managing director of H. Barton Asset Management, a $30 million fund that specializes in providing capital to up-and-coming VC-backed technology startups and a $90 million fund that invests in the funds of the country’s top-tier VCs. Barton became a private equity investor during his football career, where as an All-Pro offensive lineman for the San Francisco 49ers he earned three Super Bowl wins.
In 2004, Barton founded Champion Charities with his friend and former NFL teammate Ronnie Lott. Dedicated to eradicating brain cancer and helping those afflicted with the disease, the charity has raised more than $7 million for research and patient care. Barton holds a BA in Finance from the University of
North Carolina.
Jerry Yang co-founded Yahoo! Inc. in 1995 and served on the Board of Directors and as a key member of the executive management team until January 2012. While at Yahoo he led a number of initiatives, including two of the biggest investments in the internet: Yahoo Japan and Alibaba Group.
Yang holds B.S. and M.S. degrees in electrical engineering from Stanford University and currently serves on Stanford University’s Board of Trustees, where he is a Vice-Chair. He is widely recognized as a visionary and pioneer in the internet technology sector, and was named one of the top 100 innovators in the world under the age of 35 by the MIT Technology Review in 1999. Yang currently invests in and works with technology entrepreneurs through AME Cloud Ventures, his innovation investment firm. He is also a Board Observer for Lenovo.
Monterey Peninsula Foundation has generated over $110 million for charity since 1937.
